The City of Clinton currently provides four recycling programs to citizens and businesses located within city limits. These programs include:
- Drop off Recycling
- Cardboard Recycling
- Fluorescent Light Bulb Recycling
- Vegetable Oil Recycling
Drop off Recycling
Is provided to citizens The following items are acceptable to be placed un bagged in the blue recycle rollout container: paper, , plastic containers (number 1 to 7), aluminum cans, and steel food cans. The City of Clinton has helped to eliminate tons of recyclable items from ending up in the landfill.
Drop Off Locations:
- Public Works: 200 W John St ( across the St. from Public Works)
- Beaman St Fire Station: 1000 Beaman St (Back of building)
- Royal Ln Park: 618 Royal Ln
Vegetable Oil Recycling
The vegetable oil recycling program is a service offered to the citizens. This program has been implemented to help reduce the amount of grease from being disposed of into the sewer lines. Any used grease that is free from food particles and in liquid form, may be brought to Public Works in a sealed container that is clearly labeled vegetable oil Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Fluorescent Light Bulb Recycling
As part of a comprehensive Mercury Minimization Plan (MMP), the City of Clinton also offers fluorescent light bulb recycling (PDF) to its citizens. Because compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and fluorescent tube lights contain mercury, if they are broken or disposed of improperly, they can introduce mercury into the environment. The City of Clinton's MMP is an effort to reduce the amount of mercury that enters our surface waters, causing fish and other aquatic food sources to be unsafe to eat.
The City of Clinton also offers cardboard recycling to local businesses. Businesses may rent a dumpster for a $30 monthly rental fee for the use of cardboard. The City of Clinton empties the cardboard dumpsters weekly on either Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays.
For more information on any of these recycling programs that the City of Clinton offers, contact Public Works at 910-299-4905 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
