Role of the Recreation and Parks Department
Open spaces, parks, and recreation provide opportunities for living, learning, and leading a full and productive life. The Clinton Recreation and Parks Department provides a variety of services to the citizens of Clinton and Sampson County. Recreation and Parks provides youth sports programs such as baseball, soccer, and basketball as well as adult sports such as softball, basketball, and volleyball. A variety of programs and activities are available to help keep senior citizens active and healthy. Special events such as the July 4 th celebration, annual Easter egg hunt, and Relay for Life 5K, help bring our community together. The department maintains three parks, including the 79-acre Royal Lane Park, two activity centers with gymnasiums, and a municipal pool.
Judi Nicholson has been Director of Recreation and Parks in Clinton since 2003. She began her career in recreation in 1984. She was recreation director in Roseboro before going to Fayetteville in 1987 to become a recreation center supervisor. Judi received her Bachelor’s Degree from North Carolina State University. She is a certified parks and recreation professional and certified pool operator. She is also a registered therapy dog handler. Judi is a member of both the North Carolina and National Recreation and Parks Associations.
