This division currently maintains the 49 miles of City Streets and, in a small role the 25 miles of State Streets. The NCDOT maintained streets generally have the painted divider lines in the center.

Hurricane Debris Clean UpStreet maintenance includes all sign maintenance and repair, repair work from utility cuts, drainage, storm debris removal, removing overhanging tree limbs that could pose a hazard to large vehicles or obstruct vision, sweeping and cleaning City streets, and concrete repair of sidewalks and driveways on City right-of-way.

The annual resurfacing project, resurfaces the roads on a 15-20 year rotating schedule. The roads selected for resurfacing are based on 31 parameters set by the American Public Works Association for roadway maintenance. Some of the parameters are cracking, exposed aggregate, rotting, utility cuts, patches and potholes, just to name a few. The division is also responsible for the resurfacing of city owned parking lots.

Changes in the configuration of City streets, (speed limit, parking restrictions, stop sign changes) must be submitted to and approved by the Clinton City Council. Changes such as this require a change in law to enable the Police to enforce these restrictions.

Street maintenance also maintains the storm drainage system. This includes community projects, cleaning and repairing pipes, driveway construction and improvements, cleaning and repairing catch basins, cleaning and reshaping ditches, and periodic shoulder clipping.
