To enhance the quality of life of the community by building partnerships that will help provide a safe, secure community through proactive and impartial enforcement of the laws of North Carolina and the United States Constitution.

Role of the Police Department
 The Clinton Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency. The department is responsible for the enforcement of all local and state laws and the investigation of any crimes within the city limits of Clinton, North Carolina. The department is currently composed of 29 fulltime, sworn police officers, three civilian support staff members, and one non-sworn animal control. The police department is divided into two sections- Services and Operations.

Message from the Chief

Our partnership with the citizens of Clinton and those visiting our community is very important to us. We understand that crime and the fear of crime can best be addressed with a combination of education, prevention, intervention, and enforcement. Our goal is to keep our community safe with the support and involvement of the citizens. We are hopeful that the information provided on the website will be very useful and help everyone understand the services provided by the city’s Police Department.
Chief Jay Tilley has been Police Chief in Clinton since September 2012. Tilley served as captain for the Clinton Police Department since 2009. Prior to joining the Clinton Police Department, he served as Deputy Director of the Wake County City/County Bureau of Investigation from 2007 to 2009. Chief Tilley retired as Assistant Special Agent in Charge from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation in 2006. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and a Master’s Degree in Administration of Justice from Webster University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
