Royal Lane Fitness Trail– Located at 500 Royal Lane
½ mile mulched trail
10 station fitness equipment located along the trail. There are 2 stations together along the trail. Station 1 and Station 10 are next to each other, marking the beginning and end of the trail.
| |
Station 1 – located behind field #7 off Pierce St, this station is for stretching before you begin exercising. The vertical pole can be used to brace against as you stretch your calves. It can also be used for balance as you use the flat stands to stretch your hamstrings. You can put your heel on the flat stand and lean forward to stretch your hamstrings and groin, then put your foot flat on top, bending your knee into a forward lunge position. |
| |
| Station 2 – located behind tennis courts #5 – 8, this station is the horizontal ladder. A “C” brace is located on the station to help you get up to the first bar. Using a hand over hand motion, you “walk” the length of the ladder. For an added challenge, after going forward, make a return trip backward. |
| |
Station 3 – located behind tennis courts #5 – 8, this station is the low balance beam. The beams are divided in two allowing you to develop you balance in more than one way. The station is sloped, so you can do the easy, downhill walk or the harder, uphill walk. You can also use the beam as a jump bar by leaping, flat footed, back and forth over the bar. |
| |
| Station 4 – located behind tennis courts #5 – 8, near the track, this station is the flat bench. The bar across one end allows you to hook your feet under it to do sit ups. You can also, turn the opposite direction, hold the bar with your hands, and pull your legs up for a lower abdominal workout. |
| |
Station 5 – located behind tennis courts #5 – 8, near the track, this station is the parallel bars. By jumping up and bracing both hands on the tops of the bars, you can walk the length of the bars without touching the ground. This helps develop your upper body strength, grip, and coordination. You can also stay in place on the bars, bend your legs up behind you, and dip down and press back up for a good upper chest and full arm workout. |
| |
| Station 6 – located off Royal Lane near the turn in to the soccer complex parking area, this is the “frog pad” station. You can do many different exercises at this station. You can use the pads for a stretch station similar to station 1. You can stand on a pad and exercise your balance by standing on one leg then the other. You can leap from one pad to another, using both feet, switching from one foot to the other, or using only one foot. |
| |
Station 7 – located off Royal Lane near the turn in to the soccer complex parking area, this is the vertical ladder. You can use this station to stretch, to climb up and down one side, to climb up and over, to swing around, or weave yourself in and out of the bars. |
| |
| Station 8 – located near field #7, behind the park maintenance area, this is the chinning bar. There are 2 heights for you to choose from and you can start on one and move to the other. You can use a forehand grip, grabbing the bar with your palms facing away from you to pull up or do a bent arm hang. You can use a backhand grip, with your palms facing toward you, for the same exercise. |
| |
Station 9 – located near field #7, behind the park maintenance area, this is the vertical climber. The wall exercises are similar to the vertical ladder, but you have to be mindful of your foot placement more with this piece of equipment. |
| |
| Station 10 – located behind field #7 off Pierce St, this is the jump bar. By placing your hands on top of the bar and jumping up to rest your hip bones on the bar, you work on your coordination and balance. You can use it to stretch your legs, back, and arms as well. |

Royal Lane Cross Country Trail
This 5 K course is used by the Clinton High School Cross Country Team for their home meets. The Course begins on the track at Royal Lane Park. Runners line up with the press box on their left and start running clockwise. After running one lap around the track, runners angle off to the left and get on the mulch path of the Fitness Trail. Runners follow the Fitness Trail till it circles back toward to track, then they head for the track and start around it, clockwise again. When they get to the far side of the track they run toward the football score board, then run next to the parking lot, toward Pierce St. The runners cross Pierce St and head for the outfield of Baseball field #5 and then toward the tree line and the entrance of the Nature Trail. Runners stay on the Nature Trail till it exits behind picnic area #2 and run straight toward the road. Once they reach the road, they make a hard left and follow the road into the “clay hole”. Runners follow the trail markers into the clay hole, circle back and start back the way they came. The runners turn right next to field #6 and go back onto the Nature Trail. They come out of the Nature Trail, run behind field #5, cross Pierce St, run beside the parking lot, and take a hard left at the end of the parking lot and aim for the Fitness Trail. They retrace their path on the Fitness Trail and when they come around by the track, aim for the track and finish at the press box.
